MIM 4605 (quench and tempered, high hardness) is a low alloy steel with compositions including carbon, nickel, and molybdenum. A quench and temper heat treatment is a process that offers various strength and wear resistance properties, while the high hardness indicates the final hardness that is achieved through the process. Typical values of hardness are 47HRC. Higher hardness and strength characteristics can be obtained through varying quench and temper conditions. It can be plated or coated for corrosion resistance. A wide variety of industries use this, including automotive, consumer products and power hand tools.
